LULAC launches The Detention Files as Aurora contract renewal nears.
WASHINGTON. The League of United Latin American Citizens today launched The Detention Files, a public accountability project documenting the federal money, personnel, and human toll behind the two largest private immigration detention contractors, GEO Group and CoreCivic.
Since January 20, 2025, the two companies have received $2.63 billion in federal obligations, $4.5 million a day, while 57 people died in ICE custody and more than 6,200 children were detained. The site publishes the underlying records, every figure linked to its primary source, alongside a portal through which families, attorneys, and facility staff can report abuse.
"The record is public. We are putting it in one place and asking the people who fund and finance these contracts to answer for it," said Juan Proaño, Chief Executive Officer of LULAC.
LULAC is asking Congress for public hearings, the DHS Inspector General for an audit of every award since January 20, 2025, and the companies' largest shareholders for stewardship escalation with public deadlines.
